Stacy Cohen Sing Out Loud!

Stacy Cohen

Stacy Cohen - Starting over at 64 after I realized I could and would get over a very bad divorce which caused a chain reaction to a bankruptcy.
I basically became a “country-blues” song which is yet to be written! - Music has always gotten me through to the other side of the blues.
I had a 38 year career in commercial insurance followed by the creation of a local site that included a restaurant, a NYS farm distillery, an art gallery and live music venue with an outside space in the middle of it all…across the street from the original Woodstock Festival site in Bethel, NY. I am an untrained musician who learned how to play guitar from a Bob Dylan song book and I love to sing. The music has always come from a different place and simply makes me joyful and I have always been grateful for my musical side which was passed down from both of my parents. I have recently discovered NextTribe and I have been inspired by the content, the stories, and the women. I just returned from my first NT travel experience for Day of the Dead in Mexico where I spent a fun and spiritual week with some wonderful NextTribe woman and now new friends! I am happy that I took a chance to be involved in Sing Out Loud and that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it!

Julie Russell Sing Out Loud!

Julie Russell

I’ve always wanted to be a singer! It feels like what I was born to do.
At 10, I was already getting paid for studio work. My musical future looked promising. I have been involved in multiple car accidents (none my fault!) that have made singing extremely challenging:
1994 as a passenger - broken jaw, multiple surgeries, hearing loss.
1999, complete facial reconstruction.
2017 - rear ended, bulging discs, spinal cord compression, neurosurgeon advised disc fusion, 20% chance of losing ability to sing.
In 2011, we started a band that performed local and out of state gigs, filmed a music video, and an original EP. I was having the time of my life.
In 2018, I went to Germany for specialized surgery. While successful, my vocal chords were damaged. I went through a year of vocal rehab, determined to reclaim my ability to sing. Then COVID - no more gigs.
In 2021 I moved to Nashville. Moving to a new place where I knew no one, I felt insecure about my vocal ability - perhaps my years of singing were behind me. On a whim of hope, I auditioned and became a member of a local band. We started performing a few months ago. I love to sing, and refuse to give up! I don’t know if my voice will ever return to the state it was pre-injury, but having the courage and opportunity to use my gifts again is a priceless gift.
